Lessons from recent listing applications. DESCRIPTION:The criteria and process for listing has always been liable to ignorance\, subjective judgment\, and vested interests. Commercial\, aesthetic and  political agendas can always distort the appreciation of architectural quality within the listing process\, and also in decisions as to the treatment of listed buildings.\n\nSome recent cases concerning MoMo Buildings have seemed to have particularly arbitrary outcomes.  Yet\, with HE setting out clearer criteria - Historical Context\, Location\, External and Internal Layouts\, Materiality\, Critical Assessment - there have been some positive outcomes.\n\nThe purpose of this event is to hear from those with recent experience of attempting to list MoMo buildings\, or of dealing with proposals for works on MoMo buildings already listed\, and to discuss how to ensure that such buildings are treated equally to buildings of other periods or styles.\n\nThe format for this event is to examine the lessons to be learned from advocates for two Schemes\, one of which was turned down for listing (Birmingham Central Library) and one (Balfron Tower) which was already listed and is about to be subjected to damaging alterations despite listing.\n\nSpeakers: Alan Clawley\, from Brutiful Action Group on the campaign for Birmingham Library\, and James Dunnett on the detrimental extent and effect of works proposed to Balfron Tower in relation to its listed status.\n\nEntrance fee on the door.
